YOUNGSTOWN -- Judge R. Scott Krichbaum rubbed his eyes, then let out a sigh as he read details of Ned Anderson's sexual encounters with two teenage girls.
"I can't even read this. It makes me sick," the judge said Wednesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
He sentenced Anderson to three years in prison but felt that the 26-year-old Auburndale Avenue man deserved more.
"This man says he is weak in the flesh and can't help himself," the judge said. "I'm worried sick about what happens if he gets out."
Anderson pleaded guilty in September to two counts of unlawful sexual contact with a minor, each a fourth-degree felony. Judge Krichbaum gave him the maximum sentence of 18 months in prison for each charge and stacked them consecutively.
Dawn Krueger, assistant prosecutor, said Anderson had sex with two teenage sisters, one 13 and the other 16. The girls were friends of Anderson's girlfriend.
Previous abuse
Because the victims were 13 or older, and because they admitted that the sex with Anderson was consensual, Anderson could not be charged with the more serious crime of rape, Krueger said.
The victims' mother said her daughters previously had been sexually abused by their father, who is in prison because of that. She said Anderson knew about that past abuse and had sex with the girls anyway.
She said both girls got a sexually transmitted disease from Anderson.
"He doesn't care, and that's what hurts me," the woman said, urging the judge to put Anderson in prison instead of placing him on probation, which was one of the sentencing options.
Another case
In an unrelated case, Judge Krichbaum sentenced 18-year-old Terry A. Gray of Detroit Avenue to 14 months in prison for gross sexual imposition, to which Gray pleaded guilty in October. Krueger said Gray had sex with a 14-year-old girl in November 2002.
