Struthers teachers union receives award from regional association
STRUTHERS -- The North Eastern Ohio Education Association has bestowed a Five Star Award on the Struthers Education Association, which it says has set an example for other education organizations.
The SEA is the teacher union in the Struthers school district.
The distinction recognizes local affiliates that are active leaders in association involvement. Terri Rogan, a mathematics teacher at Struthers High School, accepted the award at the fall meeting of the NEOEA representative assembly. She has been SEA president for 12 years.
The award further recognizes the Struthers group's participation in activities of the NEOEA and Ohio Education Association, including professional and leadership training for local members; accessing resources provided by NEOEA; meeting with colleagues from neighboring associations; involving members in the union's legislative program; and participating in representative assemblies that govern NEOEA, OEA and the National Education Association.
NEOEA includes 194 local associations in 11 counties. Members work in public K-12 and higher education schools, as well as for boards for the mentally and developmentally disabled.
