SUNRISE, Fla. -- Florida defenseman Mathieu Biron became the first NHL player in 23 years to score against his brother, beating Buffalo goalie Martin Biron in the Panthers' victory over the Sabres. Phil Esposito of the New York Rangers was the last previous player to accomplish the feat, scoring on brother Tony of Chicago on Nov. 5, 1980. Mathieu Biron, who at 23 is three younger than Martin, gave Florida a 2-0 lead late in the first period when he joined a two-on-one rush and tipped Stephen Weiss' pass past his brother.
Capitals 4, Red Wings 1
DETROIT -- Jaromir Jagr, Robert Lang and Dainius Zubrus combined for eight points for Washington, and Rastislav Stana stopped 38 shots for the victory in his first NHL start. Both Jagr and Lang had a goal and two assists, and Zubrus had a goal and an assist. Peter Bondra also scored for Washington, and Sergei Gonchar had two assists. Kris Draper scored for Detroit.
Maple Leafs 2, Canucks 1
TORONTO -- Ed Belfour passed Glenn Hall for fifth place on the career victory list, stopping 24 shots for Toronto. Belfour has 408th victories, 15 shy of Tony Esposito for fourth place. Patrick Roy is first with 551. Mats Sundin and Gary Roberts scored for the Maple Leafs. Brendan Morrison had the lone goal for Vancouver.
Stars 5, Coyotes 2
DALLAS -- Mike Modano, Jason Arnott and Jere Lehtinen scored power-play goals for Dallas. Steve Ott added his first goal of the season, Modano also had two assists, and Stu Barnes added an empty-net goal for the slumping Stars, who were 1-6-2 in their previous nine games. Cale Hulse's goal 31 seconds into the second period snapped the Coyotes' shutout streak of 141 minutes, 46 seconds. Landon Wilson added his first goal of the season for the Coyotes, 0-5-4-1 in their last 10 road games.
Predators 3, Avalanche 2
DENVER -- Kimmo Timonen and Marek Zidlicky scored power-play goals for Nashville. Rem Murray added a short-handed goal, and Tomas Vokoun made 34 saves to improve to 5-1-0 in his last six starts. Milan Hejduk and Joe Sakic had third-period goals for Colorado, with Hejduk's goal ending the Avalanche's scoreless streak at 124 minutes, 31 seconds.
