SHARON State police helicopter aids Weed & amp; Seed patrol

The extra patrols resulted in several arrests for minor offenses.
SHARON, Pa. -- Residents along the Sharon-Farrell border are used to hearing emergency helicopters flying to local hospitals, but things were a bit different when a helicopter kept hovering around the area for hours.
Police said it was just part of a routine Weed & amp; Seed saturation patrol in a targeted area along the border.
Such patrols have occurred in the past, but this one was different because a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter flew air support, said Capt. Michael Menster of the Sharon Police Department.
The saturation patrol ran for about four hours Friday and Saturday nights, he said.
There were no raids planned as part of the patrol, but there were a number of arrests made, most for minor charges such as public drunkenness, driving under the influence and other traffic counts.
Arrests
State troopers reported arresting a Masury man suspected of driving under the influence and possessing a small amount of marijuana after his car was spotted running a stop sign at French Street and Spearman Avenue in Farrell.
He was released, and charges will be filed against him later.
Menster said police also arrested a 17-year-old Sharon youth at his home in the 200 block of Orchard Street on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The boy was placed in a juvenile detention facility, Menster said.
The arrest followed a routine visit to his home by state probation and parole agents and Weed & amp; Seed officers Friday night.
The purpose of the saturation patrols is increased visibility in traditionally high-crime areas, Menster said.
