AUSTINTOWN On-duty officer in dispute

The patrolwoman's ex-husband said she forced her way into his home.
AUSTINTOWN -- Police have initiated an internal affairs investigation into a report that a patrolwoman was involved in a fight at her ex-husband's home while she was on duty.
Police said that patrol officer Kathy Dina, 38, of Mallard Court, was told that during the investigation she cannot have contact with her ex-husband while she is on duty unless a supervisor is present. She was not suspended.
Dina's ex-husband, Joseph Dina, 36, of Rita Avenue, was arrested and charged with domestic violence as a result of the fight, police said.
Gordon Ellis, township police chief, wouldn't comment on the details of the internal affairs investigation.
Reports state that Kathy Dina went to her ex-husband's home while she was on duty about 8:45 p.m. Sunday to discuss custody of their children. She told Jason Coulter, 23, the patrol officer she was working with, to stay in their cruiser during the discussion.
Kathy Dina told police that her ex-husband asked her to leave. When she said 'no,' he slammed the door on her, injuring her back and shoulder, reports state. She then called on the police radio for backup.
Coulter told police he walked up to the home when he heard the call for backup. He was not involved in the fight.
Domestic dispute
Joseph Dina and another woman who was at the home, however, told police that Kathy Dina forced her way into the home. Kathy Dina then cursed and made threats, they said. Joseph Dina said the door was shut on Kathy Dina when she refused to leave.
Joseph Dina then called police and asked for his ex-wife's supervisor to come to the home.
Kathy Dina was taken off duty and told to go home by police after the fight.
Police said they have received several reports of domestic disputes involving the Dinas and custody of their children in the past. On Monday, Joseph Dina filed a report that Kathy Dina had violated their custody orders by picking up their children early from school.
