Trustee charged
POLAND -- A township trustee has been charged with driving with a suspended license.
Trustee Robert J. Lidle Jr., 42, was pulled over Sunday afternoon on U.S. Route 224 by a Poland village police officer who recognized him and knew he was not permitted to drive, said village Police Chief Russell Beatty.
Lidle, of Stoner Avenue, who was elected trustee in 2001, was released after being charged and is to be arraigned Wednesday in Struthers Municipal Court.
Lidle was found guilty in March of driving under the influence in Mahoning County Area Court, Boardman. Judge Joseph M. Houser sentenced him to five days in jail and 15 days on house arrest.
The judge also placed Lidle on probation for a year, suspended his driver's license for a year, but permitted him to drive to and from work. Lidle was also ordered to undergo alcohol assessment and treatment. That was Lidle's third DUI conviction in seven years.
Jewelry theft
BOARDMAN -- A resident on the 1000 block of Aspen Lane reported the theft of two bracelets and a diamond wedding ring, worth a total $7,500, from her home about 2:30 p.m. Friday. No other details were available from police.
Christmas tree lighting
McDONALD -- The village's 22nd annual Christmas tree lighting will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in front of the municipal building, 451 Ohio Ave. The event will feature refreshments, caroling and a visit from Santa.
The Community Chest will collect money to help the needy during the holiday season.
Closed for the holiday
McDONALD -- Village offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Trash pickup will run one day late this week. The week of Dec. 1 will be the last for leaf pickup.
South Range board
NORTH LIMA -- The South Range Board of Education will have a special meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 at the school district's office on South Avenue in Beaver Township. The board plans to discuss and determine what type of tax will be needed to raise money to pay for current operating expenses. School administrators said formal action likely will be taken at that meeting.
'Disaster Management'
CLEVELAND -- The "Disaster Management: Helping Ohio's Children" course for first responders meets Dec. 1-5 at Cleveland HealthSpace, formerly the Cleveland Health Museum, at Euclid Avenue and East 90th St. The event is designed for health-care workers, city and school officials, emergency personnel and professionals who work in children's organizations. It is offered by Case Western Reserve University and Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital with the Cuyahoga Division of Emergency Services, Red Cross and local boards of health. HUBBARD -- Hubbard Township trustees are searching for residents interested in serving on the zoning boards.

Charged in theft
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sabooh A. Bartiear, 30, of Austin Avenue, Warren, was due in municipal court today, charged with the theft of six bottles of wine and a portable gas range from Chrystal's Restaurant on Belmont Avenue, according to the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department. The wine is worth $600 and the range, $50.
Car vandalized
CANFIELD --Someone slashed four tires and scratched the trunk of a car parked in the 5600 block of Shields Road. The damage was discovered about 2 a.m. today, according to the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department. The Russo Drive woman said she was visiting a friend and discovered the damage when she left.
