Suicide awareness
The Mahoning County Mental Health Board has received a $10,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Mental Health to be used to increase suicide awareness in Mahoning County, where, according to statistics, more people die from suicide than homicide.
To implement the grant, a steering committee consisting of officials in the fields of health, mental health and education has been formed. The committee's goals include establishing a suicide prevention coalition in Mahoning County and implementing a community awareness campaign to increase knowledge and identification of risk factors for suicide.
