The police found marijuana in four different locations in the house.
WESTLAKE (AP) -- Police found a steak knife stuck in a kitchen cabinet and marijuana while searching the home of Cleveland Browns running back William Green, whose fiancee has been accused of stabbing him in the back.
Green, currently suspended by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse program, was hospitalized Wednesday after being cut in his home.
Asia Gray, Green's girlfriend since high school and the mother of his two daughters, is charged with felonious assault and domestic violence. She has pleaded innocent.
Green has told police that the injury was accidental, that he tripped while walking up stairs. But police don't believe him, and Gray was arrested while Green was being treated for his wound.
Search
During a search of Green's home on Wednesday night, police discovered a stainless steel knife with suspected blood on the blade imbedded in a kitchen cabinet door.
They also found marijuana in four separate locations in the home, according to a search warrant inventory list obtained from the Cuyahoga County Clerk's office.
Police also seized personal papers belonging to Green and Gray from the kitchen countertop.
In an affidavit to gain the warrant, police said they received information from someone known to them who said they got a phone call in which the voices of Green and Gray could be heard "arguing and yelling".
The person said Gray was heard saying, "I'm sorry", after which the line went dead.
Police responding to the scene noticed wood fragments from a bathroom door that appeared to have been forced open. They also detected "a strong odor of marijuana" in the master bedroom and bathroom, the affidavit stated.
Capt. Guy Turner said the seized marijuana was less than 100 grams, and there was a possibility charges could be brought against Green or Gray for the drugs.
"But it's too early to say," he said. "The investigation is ongoing."
Along with the knife and marijuana, police removed blood samples from the top and bottom of a staircase as well as from the master bedroom and bathroom floors. They also took a cloth towel with suspected blood on it and a robe.
Legal troubles
Gray, who is due back in court on Dec. 10, is under court order not to have contact with Green. The 22-year-old, who faces up to eight years in prison, has no criminal record.
The couple's children are being cared for by Gray's family and a nanny.
