Hazelwood Ave. when he received word that Kennedy was dead. "My wife and I will kneel down now to pray for the repose of President Kennedy's soul and for guidance for the new President, Lyndon B. Johnson," Kirwan said when told.

November 23, 1953: A serious water crisis in Girard is averted as the Youngstown Water Department begins transferring water to Girard's pipeline system. More than 200 homes were without water and the entire city faced the prospect of going dry by nightfall before Youngstown Mayor Charles Henderson ordered a valve opened near the Girard-Youngstown border.
