Matter scores 17 to lead Ohio St. past OU, 83-50



COLUMBUS (AP) -- Caity Matter scored 17 points and No. 16 Ohio State used 61 percent shooting to beat Ohio 83-50 in the season opener for both teams Friday night.
Kim Wilburn added 15 points for the Buckeyes, who built a 44-20 lead by shooting 15-for-25 in the first half. Ohio State finished 27-for-44 from the floor while holding the Bobcats to 34 percent (17-for-50) shooting.
Latreece Bagley led Ohio with 14 points and Elizabeth Brown added 11.
Michelle Munoz, a sophomore who sat out last year after transferring from Tennessee, scored eight points in her Ohio State debut.
The Buckeyes' young starting lineup of Munoz, Matter (junior), Wilburn (sophomore) and freshmen Jessica Davenport and Brandie Hoskins had little trouble with the Bobcats, who started three seniors and two juniors.
Davenport had 15 points and six rebounds, and Hoskins had 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Freshman Stephanie Blanton scored eight points off the bench for the Buckeyes.
