YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Sheriff's Department is among 29 marine law enforcement agencies recognized by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for exceptional public service to Ohio boaters in 2003. The sheriff's department patrols Berlin Lake from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year.
Urban League seekspeople for classes
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Area Urban League is recruiting people interested in attending lead abatement classes for contractors, supervisors, workers, inspectors and risk assessors. The classes are offered by the Mahoning County Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control Program. The classes prepare participants for state licensing for lead-based paint removal.
Workers and contractors who obtain the licensing are eligible to get jobs and contracts involving lead abatement. Registrations will be accepted until 4 p.m. Dec. 5. For more information, contact Dolores Croft at the Urban League at (330) 744-4111.
Holiday tree lighting
STRUTHERS -- The city's annual holiday tree lighting, at 6 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Administration Building, will feature Santa Claus arriving on a firetruck and treats for children.
Gunshots reported
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police were investigating a fight with gunshots fired Saturday night in the 100 block of West Chalmers Avenue. The shots were first reported around 10:30 p.m. and police were still on the scene at 11:15 p.m. Details about the fight, and if there were injuries, were not available before press time.
