Dance lessons suspended
HOWLAND -- International folk dancing lessons that have been held Thursday evenings at Howland Community Church have been suspended until January, organizer Dick Brem says.
Oakland cancels shows
YOUNGSTOWN -- Management at Oakland Center for the Arts cites unforeseen circumstances as the reason for canceling productions of "The Emperor's New Clothes" and "Santaland Diaries." "The Emperor's New Clothes," a regular-season offering, was to open last Friday. "Santaland Diaries," was to begin this Friday.
Special performances of "The Frog Prince" by the Oakland's Magic Carpet Theatre touring company have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 13, 20 and 21 at the Oakland, 220 W. Boardman St. Season ticket and Flexpass holders may bring a guest to any of the "Frog Prince" performances at no additional charge. Subscribers who cannot attend this show will receive credit toward a future show.
The Oakland season will resume in January with a production of "Oleanna."
Hoyt exhibit
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Hoyt Institute of Fine Art is hosting an exhibition of landscapes from Tuesday through Dec. 23.
An opening reception is set for 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 30. Three artists with work in the exhibition will be at the reception. They are Jason Seder of New York City in the East Gallery, Marina Mangubi, who was born in Russia, but now is an assistant professor at the College of Wooster, Ohio, will be in the West Gallery and Mary Swan of Baltimore in the Blair Sculpture Walkway.
