BALDWIN-WALLACE (9-1)vs. HANOVER (Ind.) (8-2)
What: NCAA Division III North Region first-round playoff game.
When/where: Noon at Finnie Stadium, Berea.
Next: The winner of this game will advance to the second round to face the winner of the Hope (Mich.) and Wheaton (Ill.) game Nov. 29.
Series history: First meeting.
Scouting B-W: QB Dan Larlham has completed 113 of 195 passes for 1,478 yards and 19 TDs with seven interceptions. Larlham is also second in rushing with 750 yards in 117 attempts with eight TDs. RB Mark Anders tops the rushing game with 1,104 yards in 160 attempts with a single-season record 19 TDs. Senior backup RB Randale Richmond is third with 365 yards in 67 attempts with three TDs. WR Dave Ehrman tops all receivers with 27 catches for 356 yards and four TDs. Anders is second with 20 catches for 239 yards and three TDs. TE Nate Wilder (Cardinal Mooney) is third with 19 grabs for 278 yards and six TDs. WR Gary Kopchak is fourth with 17 grabs for 227 yards two TDs.
Greg Koch and Joe George top the team in tackles with 88 each. Koch has a team-leading 49 solo stops. Justin Princehorn ranks third with 86 stops, respectively. DE Nate Mitchell is fifth in tackles with 60, including a team-leading 23.5 for lost yardage (79 total yards) and 11 QB sacks.
Rob Becker led the OAC in punting with a 39.2 average and Kevin. Hille has connected on 44 of 49 PATs and 5-of-8 field goals. Anders is the top kick returner with a 18.5-yard average in six attempts.
Other local players: Also on the Yellow Jackets playoff roster are junior defensive back/kick returner Matt Walker (Springfield); sophomore defensive back Michael Finamore (Boardman) senior linebacker Craig Vavrock (West Branch), sophomore linebacker Matt Martig (West Branch); senior offensive tackle Sean Baker (United); sophomore defensive end Brendan Moran (Poland) and junior linebacker Pat Pearson (Girard).
Scouting Hanover: The Panthers are led by QB Brett Dietz who has completed 315 of 489 passes for 3,511 yards with 35 TDs and 12 interceptions. RB Adam Stevenson leads the ground attack with 464 yards on 65 carries and four TD. Dietz's favorite target is WB Clint Bobb with 60 catches for 604 yards and six TDs. WR Terrell Cummings has 56 catches for a team-high 9 TDs.
The defensive leaders are LB Scott Power, LB Michael Creeden, LB Tad Brittingham and DE Nathan Moore. Power leads the team with 83 total tackles, including 55 solo stops. He also has nine tackles for loss, three QB sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles. Creeden is second with 74 tackles. He has two interceptions and one recovered fumble.
ALLEGHENY (7-3)vs. MONTCLAIR STATE (8-1)
What: NCAA Division III East Region first-round playoff game.
When/where: Noon at Sprague Field, Upper Montclair, N.J.
Scouting Allegheny: The Gators are making their seventh appearance in the playoffs but first since 1997. Senior QB Bubba Smith set school records with 160 completions and 262 attempts. He finished with 1,933 yards and 19 TDs. RB Jamie Sye rushed for 916 yards and 7 TDs. The leading receivers were Jon Turner (59 catches, 636 yards, 5 TDs) and Brian Woods (29-513-8). Woods also had two punt returns for TDs and led the team with 60 points. Woods led the NCAC with a 18.7-yard average on punt returns, and he was second in kickoff returns (25.2). PK Aaron Pollack was 22-of-30 on extra points and 9-for-13 on field goals for 49 points. He also punted for a 35.8 yard average. Allegheny is only the second team ever to recover from a 0-3 start and win its way into the playoffs.
Local players: Area players on the Allegheny roster were senior Ryan James (Kennedy Catholic), juniors Adam Klimas (Boardman) and Nick Sciarro (New Castle), sophomore Joe Schaefer (Slippery Rock) and freshmen Pat Bokesch (Austintown Fitch), Conor Dockry (Fitch), Patsy Malie (Cardinal Mooney), Lance Salter (Howland) and Steve Poulton (New Castle).
Scouting Montclair State: The Red Hawks won the New Jersey Athletic Conference with a 5-0 record. Montclair features a balanced attack through their Pro-I offense. They average 113.2 yards on the ground and 171.2 through the air. QB John DiGirolamo has completed 107-of-245 passes for 1,527 yards and 19 touchdowns, but 12 interceptions. RB Eugene Vick is averaging 106 yards per game. Jasper Hankins (38-570, 9 TDs), Steve Armstrong (21-413, 4 TDs), and Brian Reitmeyer (21-329, 2 TDs) are the top receivers. The Red Hawks are strong defensively, allowing just 266.7 yards per game (107.6 rushing, 159.1 passing).
GENEVA (6-4) vs.NORTH GREENVILLE COLLEGE (6-4)
What: National Christian College Athletic Association Victory Bowl.
When/where: 8 p.m. today at Reeves Stadium, Beaver Falls, Pa.
Scouting report: The North Greenville Crusaders, from South Carolina, have won six straight games. Geneva is coming off an impressive 41-10 victory over Urbana last Saturday in which it racked up over 600 yards of total offense. Geneva will feature a balanced offensive attack to go along with one of the top defenses in the Mid-States Football Association. The Golden Tornadoes are averaging 172.6 yards rushing and 195.1 yards passing per game. RB Josh Mullen has rushed for 931 yards. QB Ben Swallow is averaging almost 160 yards per game. WR Matt Nowaczynski led the Mid States Football Association with 64 catches and 878 yards. He had 9 TDs. Senior DB Mark Villella led the MFSA with seven interceptions. DE Chaz Freeman has seven sacks. This is Geneva's fourth straight appearance in the Victory Bowl and the first time the game has been played in Beaver Falls.
