Meeting canceled
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Friday meeting of the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission has been canceled.
Also, the commission office at 2801 Market St. will be closed from Wednesday to Dec. 1, when it will reopen at 7:30 a.m.
Accreditation
BUTLER, Pa. -- The Veterans Affairs Medical Center's Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service has been accredited by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists, based on the results of an on-site inspection.

Seventeen veterans made up the Class of 2003 recently inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.

PROMOTIONS
Marine corporal
Marine Corps Cpl. Brett P. Simon, son of Susan L. and Lee T. Simon of Salem, was promoted to his current rank while serving with Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron 28, Cherry Point, N.C.
Simon is a 2000 graduate of Salem High School.
Lieutenant colonel
Air Force Lt. Col. Joseph A. Less was promoted to his current rank while serving as chief of safety for the 51st Fighter Wing at Osan Air Base, South Korea.
He is the son of Joseph R. Less of Columbiana and brother of John M. Less of Leetonia.
The colonel is a 1982 graduate of Leetonia High School, a 1987 graduate of Kent State University, and he earned a master's degree in 2001 from the military extension of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
ADVANCED TRAINING
Signal support systems
Army Pvt. Faith L. Cunningham has graduated from the 10-week signal support systems specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Gordon, Ga.
Cunningham is the daughter of Josephine C. Cunningham and William G. Cunningham of New Castle, Pa.
In 2000, she graduated from Laurel High School.

946th Transportation
Army Reserve Sgt. Janine D. Toomer is serving in Kuwait and Iraq to support the missions of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
Toomer is a member of the 946th Transportation Company based in Lewes, Del. The unit, a medium truck company, hauls general cargo, bulk water and bulk petroleum products.
Toomer, a motor transport operator, is the daughter of Deborah A. Toomer and the granddaughter of Norma J. Justice, both of Youngstown, and is a 1991 graduate of Youngstown East High School.
416th Transportation
Army Staff Sgt. Victor V. Greene is stationed at a forward operating location in Iraq to support the missions of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
Greene, a member of the 416th Transportation Company based at the Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah, Ga., is the son of Nathaniel and stepson of Pauline Brown of East Liverpool.
He is a 1982 graduate of East Liverpool High School.
Health benefits adviser
Air Force Staff Sgt. Kelly M. Kivett, daughter of Mike Zehentbauer of Hanoverton, is a health benefits adviser for the 18th Wing at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan.

Midshipmen speakers
Area Navy Academy midshipmen are guest speakers at three Naval Academy information nights this week, including one today at 6:30 p.m. at Youngstown Ursuline High School, 750 Wick Ave.
Students in grades 7 through 11 and their parents are invited to attend the meeting, sponsored by the Northeastern Naval Academy Parents Club.
