LORDSTOWN -- The Wildlife Habitat Council recently recognized the General Motors Lordstown Assembly Plant for its 40-acre wildlife preserve, which is home to 375 blue heron nests.
The council's certification program recognizes outstanding wildlife habitat management and environmental education efforts at corporate sites. Each year the group's International Conservation Awards program recognizes voluntary activities by companies that demonstrate excellence in wildlife habitat enhancement and restoration.
NEW CASTLE -- Doug Danko, vice president of Jameson Health System, has received his Long-Term Care/Nursing Home Administrator license. Danko has a bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in hospital and health-care administration from the University of Minnesota.
He started his career in 1975 as director of cardiopulmonary services at Jameson Hospital, was named vice president of professional services in 1989 and continues to hold that position while directing operations at the health system's South Campus.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Three Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber entries received top awards in the annual Mid-America Economic Development Council marketing-materials competition. The Chamber's Just in Time, USA marketing program, won a Superior, first-place award, and a print ad for the same campaign, as well as the Regional Chamber Review magazine, both scored Excellent second-place rankings.
The competition recognizes creative marketing by economic-development organizations in a 10-state, mid-America region. Top-scoring entries will be displayed at the MAEDC conference in Chicago next month, where participants will vote to determine the 2003 Professional's Choice Award.
BOARDMAN -- Dr. Jane D'Isa-Smith, formerly of Boardman, was honored recently by the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education for her contribution to the college's education program. Dr. D'Isa-Smith, an associate professor at OU, was presented a 2003 Master Clinical Faculty Award and was inducted into the school's Society of Master Teachers.
Dr. D'Isa-Smith lives in Hudson and practices internal medicine at Meridia South Pointe Hospital in Warrensville Heights, Ohio.
