Columbus Blue Jackets beaten 5-1 by Detroit

The Red Wings are 4-0-1 in their last five games.
DETROIT (AP) -- Manny Legace made the most of a rare opportunity.
Legace, Detroit's third goaltender behind Dominik Hasek and Curtis Joseph, stopped 37 of 38 shots in the Red Wings' 5-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday night.
"I just try to get some net in practice time," said Legace, who has played in five of Detroit's 19 games this season. "You've just got to wait for the call."
Brett Hull scored two goals for Detroit, which extended its unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1). Kris Draper, Tomas Holmstrom, and Steve Thomas also scored for the Red Wings.
Detroit has been trying to trade Joseph, who struggled last season, and Hasek is out with a groin injury. Legace made sure neither goalie was missed.
"He gave us a chance to win in the first period," Detroit coach Dave Lewis said.
Columbus struggles
Geoff Sanderson had a goal for the Blue Jackets, 0-3-2 in their last five games.
With 724 goals, Hull moved within seven of Marcel Dionne for third place on the NHL's career list.
"Going into a game, you know where he's going to be and where he's going to end up," Columbus forward Todd Marchant said. "He finds the holes. He doesn't have 720-something goals for nothing."
Draper opened the scoring 4:09 in, and Hull made it 2-0 just 2:03 later.
Legace made several big stops to hold the Blue Jackets scoreless in the first period. He had 18 saves in the first 20 minutes.
"They were flying in the first period, they just threw everything at us," Legace said. "We got a couple of lucky bounces. One went to Drapes and the other one went to Hull."
Some key saves
Several of Legace's saves came as the Red Wings killed Mathieu Dandenault's holding penalty late in the period.
"We had some good power-play opportunities, but we weren't able to get anything by him," Marchant said. "We were a little snake-bit around the net and we were always getting just one shot. Not second or third."
Holmstrom got a power-play goal five minutes into the second period and Hull scored his second goal at 7:17 of the period.
Sanderson got a power-play goal 2:46 into the third period, but Thomas responded at 7:47.
"Legace had a strong game," MacLean said. "But we have to play better than that."
