Springfield schools seek tax figures from state

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The Springfield Board of Education adopted a resolution Tuesday asking the state tax commission to determine the income tax rate and property tax rate required to raise an additional $1.2 million -- the sum the school district has determined it needs to pay its current operating expenses.
The school board authorized district Treasurer Edward Sobnosky on Tuesday to certify a copy of the resolution to the state tax commissioner and report the results back to the school board as soon as they become available.
The school board also hired Marilyn Polansky, Mary Ann Davis, Linda Watson and Pamela Williams to teach pupils through the elementary After-School Reading Program. They will each be paid $20.10 an hour.
