Sharon Councilman Rotunno dies at 60 after fighting cancer

SHARON, Pa. -- City Councilman Lou Rotunno, a lifelong resident of Mercer County, died at 4 a.m. today after a battle with cancer.
Rotunno, 60, served two terms on council and had been re-elected to a third term this year.
He was a vocal city father who often pushed for the cleanup of neighborhoods and fiscal responsibility. The latter included his insistence that people pay their taxes and sewer bills and that efforts be made to go after delinquent accounts.
Not all of his efforts were directed at improving the city.
He led the Shenango Valley Community Library endowment fund drive which raised more than $500,000 and helped expand library operations.
Rotunno was perhaps best known for his involvement in local youth sports programs throughout his life, both as a coach and manager of sports teams as well as serving as head of the Sharon football boosters organization for years.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the McGonigle Funeral Home.
