School officials from three area leagues are getting close to forming a four-tiered athletic conference, but there is still one major thing left to do.
Vote on it.
"We've talked about it and we've discussed it, but we've not yet voted," said Lakeview athletic director Jerry Kaiser. "None of this has been set in stone."
A story Sunday incorrectly reported that the Metro Athletic Conference and the Trumbull Athletic Conference voted to join the league.
"We agreed as a league to pursue this," said MAC commissioner Clem Zumpella. "After that point, we didn't feel any vote was necessary. Everyone was in agreement. But right now, we're just pursuing a merger with the TAC and the Inter-County League."
There are still details to be ironed out before either league votes to approve the new conference, which will also include the ICL.
Area league officials will spend the new few weeks working on a league constitution, a league setup and a name.
"There's been a lot of talk and a lot of proposals, but nothing has come even close to being formed," said Lakeview principal Bob Wilson. "There are so many variables and so many communities involved. There's still a lot of work to be done."
But league officials insist that the proposed conference looks promising.
"It's still looks like a very positive situation," said TAC commissioner Mel Staats. "We're happy with the results so far in terms of discussion, but there's nothing yet written in stone."
