WARREN Delphi workers to vote on new labor contracts

WARREN -- Hourly workers at Delphi Packard Electric Systems will vote Sunday on new national and local labor contracts.
Meetings for members of Local 717 of the International Union of Electrical Workers will be at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday at Warren G. Harding High School.
Gary Reiser, local president, said he supports both tentative agreements, which were reached Sunday by negotiators for the union and Delphi Corp., the Michigan-based parent of Packard.
The national contract calls for company-paid health-care premiums, a $3,000 signing bonus the first year and a bonus that's tied to company earnings the second year. In the final two years, workers would receive raises of 2 percent and 3 percent respectively.
Reiser declined comment on the local agreement, which covers work rules and plant-specific issues.
Packard, which makes wiring harnesses and related products, has about 4,000 hourly workers in the area.
