State board OKs funds for two YSU projects

YOUNGSTOWN -- The State Controlling Board has approved $482,900 for the renovation of Youngstown State University's Beeghly Center gymnasium and $114,000 for the fourth phase of YSU's Bliss Hall Rehabilitation Project.
The gym project involves a new roof and drainage system over the gymnasium at Beeghly Center, where basketball teams play.
The Bliss Hall project, which is nearly complete, has included construction of the 16,800-foot addition to the building's east end.
The board voted unanimously in favor of the projects Monday, according to a statement released by Democratic state Reps. Sylvester Patton of Youngstown and Kenneth Carano of Austintown.
Also Monday, the board gave the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction approval to contract for comprehensive physician and dental services for the Ohio State Penitentiary and the OSP Correctional Camp in Youngstown.
Several contractors will receive $513,694 over the next two fiscal years to perform the work.
