I-79 lanes opened early
MEADVILLE, Pa. (AP) -- The threat of snow has been known to close roads in and around Meadville, but a snowy forecast opened one road Saturday. Interstate 79 had been restricted to one lane in each direction due to reconstruction that began in April. But with the work mostly complete, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation decided to reopen all lanes of the interstate in both directions Saturday. Motorists received a double dose of good news as temperatures remained in the 40s and the predicted snow stayed away. Cleanup is still under way, but the $18.5 million rebuilding of the southbound highway between Meadville and Geneva is complete.
