GIRARD Consolidated puts center up for auction

GIRARD -- Consolidated Freightways, a California trucking company that left 14 local employees jobless when it went bankrupt in 2002, will sell its former Girard distribution center at 1730 N. State St. in an auction Thursday.
Bidding on the property will start at $350,000 because a potential buyer has signed a contract for that amount, company spokesman Mike Brown said. Under bankruptcy court procedure, the first bidder in a court-ordered auction sets the starting price for bidding and sometimes gets other privileges.
The Girard building is a 27-door warehouse facility on a 2.75-acre site.
Prospective bidders who would like to participate in the auction must submit a deposit via wire or certified check along with a registration form.
The bidder registration form and more information about the property and bidding procedures are available online at www.cfterminals.com, or by calling Transportation Property Co., the real estate company hired to conduct the sales, at (800) 440-5155.
Consolidated began liquidating its assets under bankruptcy court orders Oct. 24 and so far has sold 143 properties for $269 million.
The company has 220 properties to sell with an appraised value of $400 million.
