Astro Shapes strikers will vote on contract

STRUTHERS -- Striking Astro Shapes workers are to vote Wednesday on a contract offer from the company that isn't endorsed by union leaders.
The aluminum extruder said officials with United Steelworkers of America Local 9401 agreed during bargaining Monday to put the latest company offer before its 320 members.
The company said the offer is the same one it made Friday, with some language to protect strikers if they return to work. It said it wouldn't comment on the details of the proposal.
Union leaders were meeting this morning and couldn't be reached. The company said the union leaders will not endorse the proposal but have agreed to a vote by secret ballot.
Union leaders called a strike Nov. 5, saying they were unhappy with pay raises and job security provisions in a proposed contract.
