Avalon Holdings loses$48,000 in third quarter
HOWLAND -- Avalon Holdings Corp. lost $48,000 in the third quarter on operating revenues of $15.7 million. In the same quarter last year, it lost $1.6 million on operating revenues of $19.1 million. Avalon owns Avalon Lakes Golf Course and companies involved in trucking, waste disposal and landfill management.

Bush weighs optionsafter EU sanctions threat
WASHINGTON -- Faced with a global trade ruling against U.S. steel tariffs and competing interests at home, President Bush said Sunday he is weighing information from aides and has not decided whether to lift the penalties.
"I'm thinking about it," Bush told reporters. "I've got some considerations. People are presenting reports to me, which I will look at."
A World Trade Organization panel has declared the tariffs illegal, leading the European Union to threaten $2.2 billion in retaliatory sanctions if the penalties are not lifted immediately.
