The process that interested home buyers would follow, depending on their needs, in the Buy Into Youngstown program:
FIRST CONTACT
Call the Buy Into Youngstown office at the Center for Urban and Regional Studies at Youngstown State University for referrals to needed services. The contact is Jamael Brown, (330) 941-1383. E-mail is jtbrown@ysu.edu.
INTAKE AND ASSESSMENT
Two sessions with housing counselors with Catholic Charities Housing Opportunities and GT Community Empowerment Organization to determine eligibility and needed services.
HOME BUYER TRAINING
Two sessions with financial counselors at Consumer Credit Counseling Service.
Six prepurchase workshops by the Family Service Agency. These cover: Budgeting, using credit, asset building, the home buying process, homeowner responsibilities, asset protection.
Ongoing sessions with a housing counselor.
SHOPPING FOR AND BUYING A HOME
Housing counselor determines a participant is ready to shop for a mortgage and buy a home.
NEW HOMEOWNER TRAINING
Two post-purchase workshops on financial implications of owning a home and basic maintenance by the North Side Citizens' Coalition.
Post-purchase housing counseling by the North Side Citizens' Coalition.
