It will be a winter wonderland sprinkled with fireworks at Light-UpNight festivities in downtown New Castle Thursday. Food vendors will be on the streets and Santa Claus will be taking pictures with children at Washington Center. There will be free parking and shuttles to get everyone downtown.
SCHEDULE
5 p.m.: The Columbus Innerbelt will close.
5:30 p.m.: Downtown streets will close.
6 p.m.: Entertainment begins on East Washington and North streets. Santa Claus will take pictures with children until 6:45 p.m. at Washington Center.
6:45 p.m.: A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the city's new look will be held at the entrance of East Washington Street at Kennedy Square.
7 p.m.: Fireworks by Pyrotecnico will kick off the holiday parade downtown. Fireworks by Zambelli will mark the end of the parade.
SHUTTLES
The New Castle Transit Authority will offer free shuttles downtown to avoid congestion. The shuttles will run from 5:30 to 10 p.m. with four points of pick-up and drop-off. Riders will be given color-coded stickers indicating their bus route. They are:
Yellow: Lawrence Village Plaza, park in front of the empty grocery store. Drop-off will be by the old Troutman's building on East Washington Street.
Blue: Wal-Mart Plaza in Union Township. Park at the far end of the lot near Staples. Drop-off will be at the Lawrence County Learning Center.
Red: Jameson South, park in lot across from Keystone Specialty. Drop-off will be near GNC Community Federal Credit Union.
Green: The Scottish Rite Cathedral. Drop-off near First Presbyterian Church.
