Miami rids itself of loss streak by rallying past Syracuse 17-10

The Hurricanes stayed in the hunt for the conference title and a BCS game.
MIAMI (AP) -- Freshman Tyrone Moss ran 16 times for 91 yards in the second half, and No. 14 Miami rebounded from its first two-game losing streak in more than four years to beat Syracuse 17-10 on Saturday.
Moss was one of several players coach Larry Coker inserted into the game to spark the Hurricanes after losses to Virginia Tech and Tennessee.
Miami (8-2, 4-1 Big East) trailed 10-7 in the fourth quarter before scoring 10 straight points to stay in the hunt for the conference title and a berth in a Bowl Championship Series game.
Orangemen stalled
After Kellen Pruitt partially blocked a punt, Syracuse (5-4, 2-3) got the ball back on the Miami 44 with 2:58 to play. But Miami's defense -- which played well in the two losses -- stopped the Orangemen on fourth-and-8 from the 20.
Safety Maurice Sikes knocked down R.J. Anderson's pass to Johnnie Morant in the left corner of the end zone with 52 seconds remaining.
Derrick Crudup ran out the clock from there.
Crudup, making his first career start in place of Brock Berlin, was 5-of-13 for 80 yards with a touchdown, an interception and a fumble. He also ran 14 times for 29 yards.
Coker benched Berlin after the junior quarterback threw 17 interceptions and fumbled three times in the first nine games.
Berlin played one series Saturday, receiving a spattering of boos when he entered the game early in the second quarter. Berlin misfired on his only pass, was sacked once and never returned.
Coker also benched tight end Kellen Winslow and center Joel Rodriguez for excessive penalties. Neither started the game, but both were on the field in the first quarter.
Decoy
On Winslow's first play, he drew extra attention across the middle while wide receiver Ryan Moore got left wide open down the right sideline.
Crudup faked left and hit Moore for a 45-yard score to take a 7-3 lead.
After falling behind 10-7 at halftime, Miami turned to Moss in favor of Jarrett Payton. His biggest runs came on Miami's final scoring drive.
After Crudup gained 4 yards on fourth-and-1, Moss used a great move to break a 26-yard run. He ran over Anthony Smith of Hubbard and carried Rich Scanlon into the end zone for a 9-yard score.
Syracuse scored all its points off turnovers. Crudup fumbled a snap and turned the ball over in Miami territory. The Orangemen drove 45 yards in eight plays, capping the drive with a 1-yard run by Walter Reyes of Struthers and taking a 10-7 lead. Reyes finished with 89 yards on 24 carries.
Crudup threw an interception on the opening drive, a poorly thrown ball that Rich Scanlon stepped in front of, and Syracuse turned it into a field goal.
Winslow had an up and down day off the bench. He blocked a punt in the second quarter and gave Miami the ball at the Syracuse 13. But Crudup lost yardage on fourth-and-1 at the 4.
Winslow also dropped a pass and fumbled his only catch, a 6-yard gain.
