YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Family and Children First Council has two seats open for family representative on the council's executive committee. This is a nonpaid elected position. The election will occur at the council's annual meeting Dec. 8. The executive committee meets the third Friday of each month at 1:30 p.m. The term begins Jan. 1 and continues through Dec. 31, 2005. People interested in serving may call the council office at (330) 965-7828 by Nov. 24 for more information and to receive a nomination packet. Completed nomination packets must be returned by Dec. 3.
Bush heads back to Pa.
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- President Bush will bank on Keystone State support for his re-election at a Pittsburgh fund-raiser the first week of December. Bush's Pittsburgh appearance Dec. 2 will mark his 23rd visit to Pennsylvania -- more than to any other state -- since taking office.
With 21 electoral votes, Pennsylvania is tied with Illinois for the nation's fifth-largest political prize.
The Steel City lunch is just one of five the president will headline between Dec. 1 and 11 for the Bush-Cheney '04 campaign. He is also raising campaign funs in Detroit, Newark, N.J., Baltimore and McLean, Va., a Washington, D.C., suburb.
Open house at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN -- The dental hygiene program of Youngstown State University will host an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in Room B031 of Cushwa Hall. The two-year program leads to an associate degree in applied science.
Barn-owl program funds
PORTERSVILLE, Pa. -- The Moraine Preservation Fund is selling "Annie's Legacy" limited edition prints to raise money for their Barn Owl Reintroduction Program. The print features fund's educational owl, Annie, along with three young barn owls in their favorite roosting place, the loft of a country barn. The print is $34.95 and can be purchased at the Owlet Gift Shop at Moraine State Park. Presentations with Annie are available for civic groups, organizations or schools.
