Public input sought on water plant

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- Councilman Thomas Lally wants to know what borough residents think about the possibility of selling the municipal water plant.
Council has been debating the idea for months, looking at plans to sell the facility, remodel the old plant or replace it with a new one.
The borough even spent $10,000 on a consulting study to look at the cost factors and what would happen to water rates in all three scenarios, but fewer than 40 people showed up to hear the results, Lally said.
He issued a challenge to residents to make their feelings known now. It will be too late once council makes a final decision, he said, calling it the biggest issue facing the borough in his 59 years here.
Jack Cardwell, council president, said different people have come to a number of meetings where the water plant issue was discussed. They're getting tired of coming to meetings where nothing is decided, he told Lally.
