Plans to rebuild VFW building will have to wait

FARRELL, Pa. -- Members of Farrell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286 got some discouraging news Wednesday -- it may be four to six months before they can begin replacing their burned-out building.
An electrical fire gutted the post home on Idaho Street early Sunday, doing between $300,000 and $500,000 damage. There were no injuries.
Terry Kromka, post commander, said immediately that the post would rebuild, but he had to tell a group of about 60 members at a meeting Wednesday that it will take longer than they first thought.
Kromka said the post's insurance carrier indicated it could take between four and six months to settle the claim.
Kromka said the post had between $350,000 and $400,000 insurance coverage on the building and contents.
The post can't do anything more than draw plans for a new building until it gets approval from the insurance carrier to raze the burned-out structure, he said.
