Kovalans' 50th wedding anniversary is celebrated during dinner party



XYOUNGSTOWN -- Family members and close friends gathered at the Croatian Home on Nov. 1 to honor Theodore and Lena Kovalan of Youngstown as the couple celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Hosts for the dinner party were the couple's children and their spouses, John and Debra Kovalan of Vermilion; Patricia Kovalan and Scott Shope of Charlotte, N.C.; Jane Kovalan of Girard; Nancy and Mark Iovenette of Rocklin, Calif.; Robert and Carla Kovalan of Austintown; Mary Kovalan of Youngstown; and Joanne and David Antigua of Elk Grove, Calif.
The Kovalans, who were married Nov. 14, 1953, at St. Lawrence Church in Hillsville, Pa., are members of Holy Name Church. They have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Kovalan was a registered nurse with Western Reserve Care System, South Side Unit, prior to retiring in 1990. She is a member of Ohio Nurses Association, District 3, and the Retired Nurses Interest Group.
Mr. Kovalan served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired in 1988 from Ohio Bell/AT & amp;T, where he was a technician. He is a member of Communications Workers of America and the Telephone Pioneers.
