Judge appoints lawyers to represent Koliser

YOUNGSTOWN -- Attys. John B. Juhasz and Mary Jane Stephens have been appointed by Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to represent Martin L. Koliser Jr., who was sentenced to death last week for killing Youngstown Patrolman Michael Hartzell in April.
Ohio law provides an automatic appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court in death penalty convictions. Juhasz and Stephens will handle the appeal.
They'll be paid at taxpayers' expense because Koliser cannot afford to hire his own lawyers.
Koliser was represented at trial by two lawyers from the Ohio Public Defender's Office.
