XYOUNGSTOWN -- New Bethel Baptist Church was the setting at 4 p.m. Oct. 11 as Denise A. Barnes and Eugene Carper were united in marriage by the Rev. Kenneth Simon.
After a reception at Stambaugh Auditorium, the couple left for a honeymoon at Maui and Oahu, Hawaii.
The bride's parents are Earnestine Barnes of Youngstown and the late Clarence Barnes. Parents of the groom are Robert Carper Sr. of Beaver, Pa., Geraldine Banks of Niles and the late Wilbur Banks.
Pearls, crystals and sequins adorned the bride's off-the-shoulder ivory sheath gown. It featured a sweetheart neckline and a detachable cathedral train.
Black gowns were worn by the honor attendants, Glenna Barnes, Margaret Smith and Hazel Jones. Wearing an ivory gown was the junior bridesmaid, Ronise Barnes.
Best man was Robert Carper Jr., and groomsmen were Frank Barnes, and Ray Dyson. Eugene Carper Jr., was junior groomsman.
Ushers were Rashida Barnes, Monique Ford, Elmira Mendenhall, Arnett Barnes Jr., Clarence Barnes and Brendan Sipe-Rozier. Also participating were Lisa Robinson, Brenda Dale, Kathy Banks, Stefanie Smith, Cora Carper and Brandi Carper.
The bride is a fiscal manager with Mahoning Law Library Association. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Youngstown State University and an accounting-computer specialist certificate from Mahoning County Career and Technical Center. The groom attended YSU and is the owner and chief executive officer of Sharp Auto Body Limited.
