Delphi Packard pact talks continue

Negotiations on a new labor contract for Delphi Packard Electric Systems workers were continuing this morning in Detroit.
A contract between Michigan-based Delphi Corp. and the International Union of Electrical Workers expires at 11:59 p.m. Saturday.
Doug Hoy, a Packard spokesman, said the two sides were still at the table this morning but he hadn't received any updates.
Officials with the national IUE and IUE Local 717, which represents local Packard workers, could not be reached.
Packard, which makes wiring harnesses for vehicles and related products, has about 4,000 hourly workers in the area.
The negotiations also cover other Delphi workers, though part of the corporation's work force was covered in a new contract with the United Auto Workers.
General Motors Corp. also has workers represented by the IUE, and separate negotiations are being held on a new contract for those workers.
