SOUTHEAST FOOTBALL Jackson quarterback among top honorees

COLUMBUS (AP) -- Jackson quarterback Jared Humphreys, who rushed for 1,400 yards and passed for 1,100 more, is among the top award winners on the 2003 Associated Press Southeast All-District high school football teams announced Tuesday.
Humphreys, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound junior, was selected as the offensive player of the year in Division II by a media panel from the district.
Humphreys carried 166 times for 1,400 yards and 13 touchdowns, plus completed 54 of 121 passes for 12 touchdowns for 8-2 Jackson.
Jackson's Randy Layton was selected as the coach of the year in Division II. No defensive player was singled out because of the shortage of schools in the division in the district.
Joining Humphreys as offensive honorees were: running back Austin Rohr of Logan (Division I); all-purpose back Donnie Johnson of Gallipolis Gallia Academy (III); running back Brice Redman of Williamsport Westfall (IV); Wheelersburg quarterback Tom Kaskey and Chesapeake running back Cody Hunt (V); and quarterback A.J. Jenkins of Glouster Trimble (VI).
The district's defensive players of the year included: Thornville Sheridan linebacker Ed Fellows (Division III); Wellston linebacker Lance Phillips (IV); linebacker Drew Bobb of Bainbridge Paint Valley (V); and lineman Caleb Bland of Willow Wood Symmes Valley (VI).
Layton was joined by the following coaches of the year: Thornville Sheridan's Paul Culver (III); Ironton's Bob Lutz (IV); Pete Hollon of Bainbridge Paint Valley (V); and Rusty Webb of Willow Wood Symmes Valley and Glouster Trimble's Phil Faires (VI).
