Rodriguez staying in Texas, Hart says
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
PHOENIX -- Despite reports that the Rangers are aggressively shopping Alex Rodriguez, Texas GM John Hart said Tuesday that trading A-Rod is a "long shot."
"We have the player, we love the player, we're going to retain the player," Hart said. "We're not talking about it. We're not interested in trading Alex."
Rodriguez's agent, Scott Boras, said Rangers management has not approached him about waiving A-Rod's no-trade clause. One rumor had Rodriguez going to Boston, with Nomar Garciaparra going to Anaheim and David Eckstein and prospects going to the Rangers, but Hart said he's planning on having Rodriguez finish out his 10-year, $252 million contract in Arlington.
"From our standpoint, we realize we've got the best player in the game," Hart said. "There's a lot of stuff that always seems to fly around this time of year."
