Youngstown's Design Review Committee approved these projects Wednesday:
Renovations to the property at 832 Mahoning Ave. that will house Riverbend Food Service, a food wholesaler that is moving from Rayen Avenue to the former Passarelli Bros. Automotive Service building. The company is to fill in doorways and windows with bricks or glass block, paint the building white, dig up and replace the parking area, add landscaping and erect new fencing.
New signs and address markers for businesses on Andrews Avenue. The recently formed Andrews Avenue Blight and Beautification Committee wants to put uniform address signs in front of businesses. The group also wants to add signs welcoming drivers on Andrews into what the businesses are calling the Andrews Avenue Industrial Parkway.
Improvements by the University Foods convenience store on Fifth Avenue. The store is to replace its gasoline pumps, island and canopy, paint the building, erect new signs and resurface the parking lot.
A new, larger sawdust collector for the J.C. Treharn Co. at 1024 Mahoning Ave. The company makes furniture reproductions. The collection bin will not be visible from Mahoning. The company will fence the back of the property to screen the bin.
A new metal canopy for the Sparkle Market at Market Street and Midlothian Boulevard. The canopy already has been erected because the store opened Wednesday.
Improvements made to Walt's Update Salon at 1730 Oak St. The owner, Walter Hollinshead, made the improvements before receiving approval because of a miscommunication with the city, officials said. The improvements include a new fence, windows, a sign, lighting and landscaping.
