Police probe armed robberies

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- City police are investigating two apparently unrelated armed robberies.
Police said three men in their mid-20s traveling in a car along Huron Avenue at 6:17 p.m. Monday were forced off the road by a silver sport utility vehicle.
Two men from the SUV pointed a handgun at the men in the car and demanded cash. One of the men gave $50 to the robbers, but the other two said they had no cash. The three men told police that the robbers hit one of them with the butt of the gun.
The three men ran off and the robbers chased them firing the gun, they said. The victims were unable to describe the robbers.
Police said a second robbery was reported at 11:58 p.m. Monday by a man walking home from Dunkin Donuts on Mill Street. Police said he noticed two men behind him, but continued walking.
One man pulled out a handgun and demanded cash from the 21-year-old victim.
They took the money and ran off toward downtown. The victim said both appeared to be teenagers.
