Giacchetta's Loungewins touch crown
YOUNGSTOWN -- Giacchetta's Lounge defeated Roth Bros. 30-6 to win the Youngstown Touch Football League championship Sunday.
Mike Kollar, Shawn Barber, Walley Ford and Mike Patrone scored for the winners and Mark Griffith added the conversions.
Mike Modelski scored for the Roth team.
Blue Devils claimstate title
COLUMBUS -- The Blue Devils defeated the Ember Buckeyes of Tuscarawas, 7-6 in the championship game of the state USFTL flag football tournament.
The Devils went 7-1 in the two-day, 30-team event, and earned a bid to the national championships in Orlando, Fla., in January.
Team MVPs were Eugene Mintze, offense; Nick Campbell, defense, and Jake Stewart, special teams.
Team sponsors are Wharmby Sports, Flying High Inc., and Associates in Counseling & amp; Child Guidance.
Penguins unbeatenin 4-on-4 league
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Penguins, of the Quick Six 4-on-4 Flag Football League, became the first team to go undefeated in the league's five-year history.
Led by quarterback Jason Moore, the Penguins went 17-0, defeating Lawnboys of Austintown, 33-18, in the championship game.
Team members are Jason Hagerty, Elliot Giles, Kevin Wilder, John Grover, James Hagerty and Moore.
DiGregorio inductedinto MUC hall of fame
ALLIANCE -- During halftime ceremonies at last Saturday's Mount Union-Ohio Northern football game, 11 athletes were added to the M-Club Hall of Fame.
Ed DiGregorio, a 1951 Mount Union graduate and former Youngstown State women's basketball coach, was recognized by the M-Club with an Award of Excellence for his successful coaching career.
Ekis is player of week
NEW WILMINGTON -- Brian Ekis, a senior wide receiver for the Westminster College football team from Boardman High, was named Presidents' Athletic Conference offensive player of the week.
Ekis had a record-breaking performance in the Titans' 41-39 loss to Thomas More last Saturday.
Ekis broke Westminster single-game records for pass receptions (13) and pass reception yards (271) and two of his catches went for touchdowns.
The previous school records were 11 receptions for 218 yards.
Mike Patterson, a junior defensive end for Grove City College, was named PAC defensive player of the week.
Patterson had eight tackles, including four for losses, two quarterback sacks, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery in the Wolverines' 29-14 win over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Slippery Rockwomen in tournament
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock women's soccer team received a berth in the NCAA Div. II Northeast Regional tournament.
The second-seeded Rockets (15-2-2) will face West Chester (11-5-3) at Adelphi University Friday.
Geneva volleyballin conference event
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Geneva College volleyball team will meet Shawnee St. in a first-round match of the American Mideast Conference playoffs Friday at 3 p.m.
The tournament will be played at top-seeded Walsh.
Geneva plays RWC
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Geneva College men's soccer team (11-4-3) will meet Roberts Wesleyan Friday at 1 p.m. in the NCCAA regional tournament.
The game will be contested at Mt. Vernon Nazarene.

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Dennis Kuhl, who has 30 years of management experience in the outdoor advertising industry, was hired as the sixth president of the Anaheim Angels.
Busch team has fire
MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- FitzBradshaw withdrew its No. 82 Chevrolet from the Busch Series race this weekend after a fire destroyed a backup vehicle, crew uniforms, helmets, tools and other equipment.
The fire broke out in a transporter carrying the car to Homestead-Miami Speedway. Team officials said the primary car, which was to be driven Saturday by Randy Lajoie, was saved.
UCF coach fired
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Central Florida football coach Mike Kruczek was fired. He will be replaced by assistant coach Alan Gooch for the final two games.

Cuba beats Canada
PANAMA CITY, Panama -- Ediel Palma pitched eight shutout innings and Cuba beat Canada 5-0 Monday night in the championship game of their Olympic qualifying tournament.
By reaching the final, both Cuba and Canada had already qualified for the 2004 Athens Games. The United States was eliminated with a quarterfinal loss to Mexico.
Mexico beat Puerto Rico 10-1 Monday to take third place.
