Disabled man's deathis ruled a homicide
MEADVILLE, Pa. (AP) -- More than eight months after a disabled man was found dead in his freezing northwestern Pennsylvania home, authorities ruled his death a homicide.
Crawford County Coroner Patrick McHenry ruled Monday that Frank M. Brawley, 51, who was found in his Meadville home, about 80 miles north of Pittsburgh, died of hypothermia but was slain.
McHenry said Brawley, whose legs were paralyzed and who used a wheelchair, was beaten, thrown from his wheelchair and then barricaded in his unheated apartment. His body was found Feb. 25.
The suspects, who have not been identified, broke the heater in the apartment and "then opened the windows throughout the house and allowed Mr. Brawley to die of hypothermia," McHenry said.
He said a paralyzed person is more easily affected by the cold.
McHenry declined to describe a motive in the killing.
