Jess DiCarlo namedto All-OAC team
TWINSBURG -- Jess DiCarlo, a sophomore member of the Mount Union College volleyball team from Austintown Fitch High, was named to the 2003 All-Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball first team.
DiCarlo, an outside hitter, was an All-OAC honorable mention last season.
Katie Snyder, a senior setter for Mount Union from Mentor, made the second team, while teammate Kris Barker, a senior from Marlington, was picked to the third team.
Nici Workman, a senior setter for Capital from Chillicothe Unioto, was the OAC player of the year. Marietta's Eric Viney was named OAC coach of the year.
Julie Nemergut 10that East Regional
EDINBORO, Pa. -- Julie Nemergut, a graduate of South Range High, helped the Edinboro University women's cross country team win the NCAA Division II East Regional championship Saturday.
Nemergut placed 10th overall and was third-fastest on her team in 22 minutes, 35 seconds over the 6-kilometer course, and was one of five Edinboro runners finishing in the top 15 to earn All-Region honors.
Jessica Moldovan of Warren, Pa., led the way for the Fighting Scots with a fifth-place 22:13.
Edinboro edged Indiana (Pa.) in the team scoring, 59-70.
In the men's division, Edinboro placed second behind Lock Haven, 70-71.
Both Edinboro teams qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships Saturday in Raleigh, N.C.
Little Phantoms win
CLEVELAND HEIGHTS -- Goalie Brennan Allen turned aside 16 of 17 shots as the Youngstown Little Phantoms (Squirt Division-Cleveland Suburban Hockey League) defeated Cleveland Heights 2-1 Sunday at the Cleveland Heights Ice Rink.
Brandon Nightingale scored at 1:26 into the game for the Phantoms with assists from Alex Stone and Michael Haurin. Jared Taylor scored the final goal for the Phantoms (2-1, 1-1 division) in the second period.

LOS ANGELES -- Kim Clijsters rallied from a set down to beat an injured Jennifer Capriati in a semifinal match Sunday at the WTA Championships. In the final, Clijsters will play fourth-seeded Amelie Mauresmo, who upset No. 2 seed Justine Henin-Hardenne.

NAVARRE, Fla. -- Former NFL quarterback Jim McMahon was charged with drunken driving Sunday after police said his car was swerving across the center line of a highway before being pulled over.
Shermans file to havedeath ruled accident
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Packers assistant coach Ray Sherman and his wife filed a petition to have their son's death ruled an accident.
Ray Sherman Jr., 14, died May 18 after shooting himself in the head with his father's pistol in the family garage.
Hamilton facessurgery for broken leg
SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State freshman running back Lynell Hamilton will miss the final two games of the season after breaking his lower right leg and tearing two ligaments during Saturday's 7-0 victory at UNLV.
Hamilton faces a recovery period of about nine months. He will undergo surgery to insert a plate into the leg and a large screw will be inserted to help heal the ligaments between the fibula and tibia.
Shivers wins second Bull Riders title
LAS VEGAS -- Chris Shivers won his second Professional Bull Riders World Championship on Sunday, making it through four rounds of the World Finals at the Thomas & amp; Mack Center and claiming the first-ever $1 million bonus.
Shivers, of Jonesville, La., entered the fourth round of the five-round event with 8,137 season points. Justin McBride, of Elk City, Okla., was second with 7,606.
McBride's only chance to claim the season title was by winning the final two rounds and placing fourth or better overall Sunday in the event.
McBride and Shivers did not make successful rides in the fifth and final round after making their rides in the fourth round.
Shivers, who won his first world title in 2000, ended the 28-event season with 8,455.5, while McBride was second with 7,866.5 points.
Jody Newberry, of Ada, Okla., took first place at the world finals, making four of his five rides. Newberry tallied 357 points on five bulls and earned $265,566 as well as the PBR's Rookie of the Year Award.

Canada, Cubaclinch Olympic spots
PANAMA CITY, Panama -- Canada and Cuba clinched spots in the 2004 Olympics in Athens with easy wins Sunday in a baseball qualifying tournament.
Canada routed Mexico, which eliminated the defending champion U.S. team on Friday. Cuba beat Puerto Rico.
U.S. groupedwith Lithuania
MADRID, Spain -- The defending champion United States was grouped Saturday with European champ Lithuania for next year's men's basketball tournament at the Athens Olympics.
They're joined in Group B with Angola, Australia, Greece and Puerto Rico. Serbia-Montenegro, the 2002 world champion, and Argentina are in Group A with New Zealand, Italy, Spain and China.
