COLUMBUS Tough guy Shelley powers Jackets to 2nd straight win

Last year's NHL leader in penalties netted his first power-play goal.
COLUMBUS (AP) -- Jody Shelley is perhaps the most popular Columbus Blue Jacket. It is not because of his offensive ability.
The scar-faced tough guy had his first career two-goal game and the Blue Jackets rediscovered their power play in a 4-3 victory Sunday over the Calgary Flames.
"The two goals, that's pretty awesome," Shelley said with a gap-toothed grin, evidence of his countless on-ice fights. "I was pretty pumped, and the boys were pretty pumped to see it. It's just one of those things."
Shelley, who led the NHL in penalty minutes last season, had only four goals in his previous 145 games. He had one career two-point game.
"It's great to see," said Andrew Cassels, whose first goal of the season put Columbus ahead 3-2. "He works so hard in practice and the games. It's nice to see him get rewarded."
Power-play goal
Shelley hadn't had a goal in 53 games before he redirected defenseman Scott Lachance's blast from the blue line at 14:22 of the first period to tie it 1-1. It was the first time he ever scored a power-play goal.
Columbus, which won its second straight game, was 3-for-8 on the power play after failing to convert on its last 12 opportunities and scoring on just two of 37 man-advantages the previous eight games.
"That's what won the game for us tonight, special teams," said Geoff Sanderson, who had a power-play goal. "And Marc Denis made some big saves when he had to."
Calgary was 0-for-5 on the power play. The Flames had a season-high 45 shots, 11 more than their previous best.
Lachance hadn't had an assist this season and none since last Feb. 12, a span of 31 games.
Flames score first
Steven Reinprecht opened the scoring 2:41 in, jamming in a centering pass from Craig Conroy. It was the Flames' first goal in 125 minutes after consecutive shutout losses to Detroit and Minnesota.
Jarome Iginla tapped in Stephane Yelle's centering pass off Columbus defenseman Jaroslav Spacek's skate early in the second for a 2-1 Flames lead, but the Blue Jackets reeled off three goals in a span of 2:11 to take command.
Shelley banged in a backhander at the left corner of the goal mouth.
The Blue Jackets took the lead for good when Cassels scored on a rebound before Sanderson's long slap shot found the net.
"We couldn't make a save in the second period and it cost us the hockey game," said Calgary coach Darryl Sutter.
Andrew Ference scored on a rebound 1:54 into the final period, but Denis turned away several prime opportunities on two Calgary power plays.
