Laurel Mountainchairlifts to run
A Virginia real estate company has entered the resort business for the first time, guaranteeing that chairlifts in a historic but troubled western Pennsylvania ski area will be running this season.
Terms of the sale at auction were not released. The former owner of the Laurel Mountain ski area had been seeking $7.5 million to take over the lease of the property from the state.
The ski area lies within the Laurel Mountain State Park, a 493-acre expanse of vistas that rise 1,300 to 2,800 feet above sea level. The ski resort boasts one of largest vertical drops in Pennsylvania.
Work at the resort, about 55 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, this year will mostly be maintenance, but an extensive marketing campaign and a possible expansion of the facilities and slopes could be on the way.

Police offer $10,000 for information
PHOENIX -- Police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a 20-year-old transient suspected in the death of Cincinnati Reds outfielder Dernell Stenson.
Chandler police spokesman Sgt. Mark Franzen said the investigation is focused on finding David Griffith, whom police consider armed and dangerous.
Stenson, who was playing in the Arizona Fall League, was found dead Wednesday in the Phoenix suburb of Chandler. He had been shot and run over and apparently dragged by his own SUV.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the case.
Within two hours after Stenson's body was found, 43-year-old Kevin Riddle was stopped by police while driving Stenson's SUV, police said.
Riddle remains in custody on a $10,080 bond. He was charged on Friday with possession of stolen property.
Riddle's 19-year-old half brother, Reginald Riddle, is being held on a $500,000 cash bond for homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping, and burglary. He has not yet been formally charged.
Reginald Riddle made an initial court appearance Friday. According to court documents, he admitted his involvement during interviews with police.
Franzen declined to elaborate on what Riddle told authorities.
Kevin Riddle identified himself as a transient to police, and Reginald Riddle listed no address on court paperwork.
Griffith's connection is unclear.
Detectives have declined to identify a motive or to give a detailed account of what happened to Stenson until authorities find Griffith, Franzen said.
Capriati reachessemifinals at WTA
LOS ANGELES -- Jennifer Capriati defeated Anastasia Myskina 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 Saturday to claim the last semifinal spot in the WTA Championships.
Capriati completed round-robin play with a 2-1 record in the Black group after letting most of a 5-1 third-set lead evaporate. She closed out the victory on her fourth match point when Myskina netted a service return.
Amelie Mauresmo didn't have to lift her racket Saturday to advance.
Elena Dementieva defeated Chanda Rubin 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, giving Mauresmo a spot in today's semifinals of the season-ending tournament.
Later Saturday, Justine Henin-Hardenne, who will end the year at No. 1 in the WTA Tour rankings, played Ai Sugiyama in a match that had no impact on the semifinals.
Mauresmo plays Henin-Hardenne in one semifinal; Clijsters and Capriati are in the other.
