RMI Titanium negotiatorsfail to reach agreement
WEATHERSFIELD -- RMI Titanium negotiators met for five hours Sunday with union leaders representing the company's 360 hourly employees, but no agreement was reached on key issues, a union spokesman said.
Ray Raschilla Jr., unit chairman of United Steelworkers of America Local 2155-7, said a federal mediator assisting with the talks will try to schedule another meeting next weekend.
Workers represented by Locals 2155 and 2155-7 have been manning informational pickets outside the Weathersfield Township titanium mill since Oct. 27 when the company locked them out.
Union members voted down a company proposal Oct. 25 that included a three-year wage freeze, a $1,000 signing bonus and cost-cutting changes in work rules that would have reduced the size of the work force.
