MIAMI -- Kevin Garnett had 25 points and 17 rebounds to lead Minnesota past the winless Miami Heat for the Timberwolves' second straight road win.
Garnett used his height advantage to dominate inside against the Heat's smaller front line, and helped Minnesota follow up Friday's 100-71 rout of Orlando.
Sam Cassell added 23 points, six assists and five rebounds, and Latrell Sprewell had 15 points for Minnesota.
Eddie Jones had 21 points to lead the Heat, who are 0-6 for the first time since opening their inaugural season in 1988-89 with 17 straight losses.
Miami trailed by 19 points in the fourth quarter but made a late run to pull within 80-74 with just under two minutes to play.
Rookie Dwayne Wade, who finished with 19 points, made a pair of baskets to cut Minnesota's lead to six with 1:47 left. However, Fred Hoiberg nailed a 3-pointer to give the Timberwolves an 83-74 lead with 1:31 left, and Garnett blocked a shot by Caron Butler to seal the game. Butler returned to the lineup after missing the preseason and first five games of the regular season following surgery on his left knee. Butler, who has been limited to five practices, scored nine points in 31 minutes. The Timberwolves took control of the game in the third quarter, erasing a 41-40 halftime deficit by outscoring Miami 28-16. Garnett and Sprewell combined for 19 points in the period.
Sprewell hit a pair of 3-pointers, the second of which put Minnesota ahead 58-48 with 5:19 left. Garnett had no problem getting his jump shot off against the smaller Heat and made four of five shots in the period, including a short jumper that opened a 14-point lead in the closing seconds.
Gary Trent's short jumper put the Timberwolves up 74-59 with 9:07 left in the game.
Miami pulled within 78-67 on Jones' 3-pointer with 4:19 left.
Notes: Tyrone Hill played his first game with the Heat. Hill, who signed with the team on Friday, played just two minutes and was scoreless. ...
