YOUNGSTOWN -- The owner of Inner Circle Pizza, 2704 Mahoning Ave., told police that he fired three shots at two robbers who left the restaurant with $85 and ran east on Mahoning about 8:20 p.m. Saturday. About 20 minutes later, Marc A. Ellington, 17, of Lemans Drive showed up at St. Elizabeth Health Center with a gunshot wound to his left side. The clerk from Inner Circle was brought to the hospital and identified him as one of the robbery suspects, police said. In the waiting room, the clerk then identified his brother, also named Marc A. Ellington, 20, of Hillman Street, as the second suspect. The elder Ellington was booked into the Mahoning County jail Saturday night and the younger Ellington was taken to the juvenile justice center Sunday afternoon after being released from the hospital. Both face robbery charges.
Police release identityof 1-car crash victim
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police released this morning the name of a woman killed in a one-car crash. Ruth Moss, 33, of West Princeton Avenue died when the car she was driving crashed into a tree in the 1200 block of Old Furnace Road about 2:15 a.m. Saturday, police said. Police called for the fire department to cut her out of the 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier. Moss' vehicle, which had been traveling east, went off the side of the road for an unknown reason and into the tree, police said.
Police arrest man in fight,levy weapons charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- A large crowd behind Larry's Lounge on Hillman Street ran when police arrived around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in response to a call about a fight with a gun. Jermaine Wynn, 28, of West Indianola Avenue was arrested on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon. Police said Wynn ran as they approached and tossed the gun before being caught. The 9mm gun had one round in the chamber and 13 in the magazine, reports show.
Man suffers minor injurieswhen truck overturns
GREEN -- A 67-year-old Canfield man suffered minor injuries when he overturned his dump truck, containing gravel, on state Route 165. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the truck driven by John Saunders of Leffingwell Road was traveling west on the road at 12:39 p.m. Saturday when it went off the right side of the road, hit a ditch, came back onto the road, then back off again, and flipped onto its roof after hitting the ditch a second time. Saunders was ticketed for failure to maintain control of his vehicle. The gravel didn't fall onto the road, the patrol said.
Firefighters to collect
ELLSWORTH -- Representatives of the Ellsworth Fire Department seeking funds to pay for much needed equipment will go door-to-door over the next few weeks asking residents for $20 donations. According to Brian Blevins, president of the Ellsworth Firefighters Association, donors will receive certificates for a free 11-by-14-inch color portrait. Portrait sittings will be at the fire department, 6036 S. Salem-Warren Road, Nov. 20 from 2 to 8 p.m.
Walking exercises offered
GIRARD -- Walking exercises will be available from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday at the gym in city hall beginning next Monday. Those interested in joining a volleyball league are asked to meet at 7 p.m. today at the gym. Participants must be city residents or Girard graduates.
Salem power outage
SALEM -- Ohio Edison crews were trying to fix a power outage that affected north, south and east sides of the city. The outage occurred about 5:45 a.m. today when electrical wires on South Lincoln Avenue came down, according to LuAnn Koch, Edison area manager. She didn't know what caused the wires to fall. Police were directing traffic at several intersections.
Hunting gear stolen
SALEM -- A man's hunting equipment was stolen from his truck while it was parked on the 400 block of Filbert Avenue. The hunting gear was valued at $1,000. Also taken was a cordless drill worth $100. The crime was reported about 12:55 p.m. Friday, police said.
