Denison gets Eagle award
Derrick Denison, 18, son of Marcia and Richard Denison of Boardman, has received his Eagle Scout award during a court of honor ceremony at the Boy Scouts' Camp Stambaugh.
He started Scouting in Woodbury, Minn., in 1991. Last year, his family moved from Minnesota to Boardman, where he joined Troop 46, which is led by Scoutmaster Eric Grabman.
Denison has earned 24 merit badges. He has served as troop den chief, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, chaplain's assistant, and junior assistant scoutmaster. He has spent the last four summers working as a camp counselor at Tomahawk Scout Reservation in Rice Lake, Wis.
His Eagle Scout service project was building a hiking trail in Boardman Park, where 100 feet of trail was added to the park's walking paths as well as a bridge over a small creek. The trail passes through an area that has various wildflowers.
He is a senior at Boardman High School, where he belongs to the Key Club and German Club.

Ranttila gets doctorate
Nicole Ranttila, formerly of Girard, recently earned a doctorate in clinical psychology in ceremonies at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago.
She has accepted a fellowship at Connections Day School in Chicago, which is a therapeutic day school specializing in child and family psychology.
Dr. Ranttila spent the last year in Missouri completing a predoctoral internship at the St. Louis Psychology Internship Consortium, where she specialized in family therapy, forensic psychology and acute psychopathology.
Before the internship, she completed four years at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, where she earned a master's degree. While in graduate school, she taught graduate courses in biology, psychopharmacology and cognitive neuroscience. In addition, she researched, developed and implemented a 10-week, parent-child intervention program for underprivileged children.
Ranttila is a 1998 summa cum laude graduate of Youngstown State University and a 1994 valedictorian of Girard High School. She is the daughter of Bill and Kris Ranttila of Girard.

Garland passes Pa. bar
Louis Russell Garland of Boardman has passed the Pennsylvania Bar Examination.
Atty. Garland graduated from Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences. He received his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh's Law School. He plans to take the Ohio State Bar Examination in February.
He is the son of Denise and Tom Nycz of Boardman.
