The newly registered included 525 Democrats, 402 Republicans, six Green Party members, four Libertarians and 164 from other parties.
It seems women outnumber men in all political parties in Lawrence County. Here is the breakdown: Democrats, 12,303 men, 18,893 women; Republicans, 8,400 men and 11,698 women; Green Party, 10 men and 21 women; Libertarians, 41 men and 52 women. Of those registered under other parties are 1,587 men and 2,415 women.
Mercer County had considerably fewer voters registered for the fall general election than the spring primary.
There were 75,268 registered in May but rolls were reduced to 71,016 by November.
The new numbers showed 34,425 Democrats, 29,756 Republicans, 178 Libertarians, 82 Green Party and 6,575 other party.
The Democrat rolls dropped by about 2,400, while Republicans lost about 1,300.
A breakdown by sex wasn't available late last week.
Toy drive
The Mercer Barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police has launched its annual Christmas toy drive, seeking new toys for distribution to needy families in Mercer County.
Last year, more than 650 families and children benefited from the generosity of Mercer County residents.
All toys collected are distributed locally with the assistance of the Children's Aid Society of Mercer County. The drive is accepting only new toys and, for security reasons, they must not be wrapped. That also allows families to view and select the toys they believe their children most want.
Toys should be dropped off at the barracks at 826 Franklin Road (U.S. Route 62) no later than Dec. 10.
