BLUE JACKETS Streak ends in Columbus

The Blue Jackets were 0-6-0-1 in their last seven games.
COLUMBUS (AP) -- David Vyborny had his first three-goal game and the Columbus Blue Jackets ended a seven-game winless streak with a 4-2 victory over Atlanta on Friday night.
Vyborny's hat trick came in his 244th NHL game. He had a short-handed empty-netter in the final minute for his third goal.
The Blue Jackets were 0-6-0-1 in their last seven games.
Atlanta mustered just 14 shots, matching the fewest ever faced by Columbus.
The Blue Jackets' Geoff Sanderson scored his first goal since the final game of last season. He had been stymied on his first 24 shots in the opening 10 games. A season ago, he had four goals at this point and finished with a franchise-record 34 goals.
Helps stop skid
Marc Denis made 12 saves for Columbus to end a personal five-game losing skid.
Ronald Petrovicky and Patrick Stefan each scored their third goals for the Thrashers.
Sanderson took a pass from Denis and streaked up the left wing, firing a slap shot from the top of the left circle that beat goalie Byron Dafoe high on the glove side at the 12:33 mark of the opening period for a 2-1 Columbus lead.
Petrovicky capped a three-goal spurt by the teams in less than two minutes. A weak pass off the back boards by Columbus defenseman Scott Lachance was intercepted by Karl Stewart, who slid a perfect pass through the slot to Petrovicky at 13:18.
Vyborny opened the scoring at the 11:37, controlling a weird bounce off the side boards and gliding through the slot. He avoided defenseman Chris Tamer, who fell down trying to reach the puck, then skated to the right corner of the goal to beat a sprawling Dafoe.
The Jackets made it 3-1 early in the second period. Luke Richardson's shot from the point was redirected by Vyborny, the puck caroming high into the air and bouncing past a stunned Dafoe.
